Mission

SOLUTIONS @Stanford Medicine is dedicated to creating equitable and sustainable global healthcare solutions for tomorrow through innovation and social accountability. As an institution of excellence in healthcare, we have a responsibility to promote social accountability as we shape the future of global healthcare. The rising cost of medical care has resulted in an unsustainable burden on all societies. With each advance, the disparity between the socioeconomic classes grows. Legislation alone has been unable to correct the issue. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that medical schools have an "obligation to direct their education, research and service activities towards addressing the priority health concerns of the community, region and/or nation they have a mandate to serve.

Objective

SOLUTIONS believes that academic institutions can make a difference by creating a forum by which students, faculty, industry, government agencies, and other stakeholders can collaborate and develop solutions for an equitable and sustainable healthcare future. The three pillars of SOLUTIONS are:

  • Increase social accountability at Stanford by bringing global healthcare issues of under served populations to the forefront.
  • Promote Stanford innovations in healthcare by identifying industry partners interested in bringing socially innovative products to market.
  • Partner with key stakeholders interested in promoting a balanced approach to corporate responsibility within their organizations.
